“Gone In 48 Seconds”

It was dubbed as Ronda Rousey’s comeback fight but now it seems it will be remembered as Rowdy’s farewell bout.

Demolished in just 48 seconds, nobody was expecting it, not even Amanda Nunez herself. She must have thought Rowdy will give her a fight of her life as she had been waiting for this moment for such a long time. But the way she finished her off inside a minute tells you another story, something no one could have predicted.

Ronda Rousey was a star of UFC and considered one of the most famous names in the history of the sport. UFC President Dana White called her a bigger star than Conor ‘The Notorious’ McGregor. However, her reputation couldn’t save her from the Brazilian who calls herself ‘The Lioness’. Indeed she fought like a lion and didn’t gave Ronda any chance once she started landing her punches.

Nunez after the win said: “I am dedicated fighter and I had my team behind me. All those guys have made me an amazing fighter and brought me onto another level. This is my moment. She had her time, she done her actress parts – thank you Ronda Rousey but right now I am the champion. I prepared my mind, body and spirit. I know they love Rousey but I was ready for this fight. I trained for this girl since my first fight in UFC. I am the best on the planet. She’s going to go do movies. Forget about her. She has a lot of money already. We have vision and a lot of talent. Forget about Ronda Rousey. I’m the real champion.”

Rousey’s reply after the mega loss was: “I want to say thank you to all of my fans who have been there for me in not only the greatest moments but in the most difficult ones. Words cannot convey how much your love and support means to me. Returning to not just fighting, but winning, was my entire focus this past year. However, sometimes – even when you prepare and give everything you have and want something so badly – it doesn’t work how you planned. I take pride in seeing how far the women’s division has come in the UFC and commend all the other women who have been part of making this possible, including Amanda (Nunes). I need to take some time to reflect and think about the future. Thank you for believing in me and understanding.”

It’s hard to believe what happened on Friday night at UFC 207 but one thing is certain, Rowdy’s retirement!
